1974: Merged with Shaginappi 61, Sinawa 73, Wa-Zi-Ya-Ta 233, Day Noomp 244, and Wolverine 501 to form Awase 61.

Chequah Lodge 194 was the local chapter of the Order of the Arrow (OA) serving the Nicolet Area Council based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Founding and Early History

  • Established: The lodge was chartered in 1939, just a few years after the Order of the Arrow became a national program of the Boy Scouts of America.

  • Totem and Insignia: The lodge’s totem prominently featured a thunderbird (often depicted with a lightning bolt) and peace pipes.

Service and Affiliations

  • Council: The lodge served the Nicolet Area Council, which managed Scouting in Green Bay and surrounding areas.

  • Camp Connection: Chequah Lodge 194 was closely associated with Camp Bear Paw, a primary council camp where many of its induction ceremonies (Ordeals) were held.

  • Regional Role: As a member of the national OA organization, the lodge participated in regional conferences and helped preserve the "Black Diamond Award," an early honor program unique to the Green Bay area.

Legacy and Successor

  • Formation of Bay-Lakes Council: Badger Council merged with councils from Oshkosh, Menasha, Green Bay, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan to form the Bay-Lakes Council, a large organization covering many counties in Northeast Wisconsin.

  • Lodge Consolidation: Following the council merger, the OA lodges from these regions consolidated into a new, single lodge for the Bay-Lakes Council, Awase #61.

The Nicolet Area Council (headquartered in Green Bay) primarily used Bear Paw Scout Camp as its main summer camp.

Key details about the camps used by Nicolet Area Council council include:

Bear Paw Scout Camp located near Mountain, Wisconsin, in the Nicolet National Forest. It has served Scouts since 1946 and was the hallmark summer destination for the Nicolet Area Council before the council merged to form the Bay-Lakes Council in 1973.

Gardner Dam Adventure Base located along the Wolf River in Langlade County, this camp was also a primary facility serving the council. It now serves as an adventure base for high-adventure activities.

Jax Camp, Bay-Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America is a rustic weekend camp located in Door County near Sturgeon Bay that was also part of the council's properties.

Camp Rokilio Originally founded in 1924, this camp served the regional Scouting community and is currently a major Cub Scout resident camp under the successor Bay-Lakes Council.

The Nicolet Area Council merged with other local councils in 1973 to form the Bay-Lakes Council, which continues to operate these properties today.
